We will study typical financial transactions, such as asset securitizations, credit default swaps or repurchase agreements (repos), as well as new financial products, such as cryptocurrencies, in order to understand their functions, economic importance and legal problems. We will then discuss the regulatory reactions to these phenomena. We will also look at the difficulties caused by multiple, overlapping rules originating from different legislators and regulators.
All classes will be held in English. Students will be assigned a reading before each class. This could be an article or a court decision. Students will receive a manuscript to review the class and prepare for the exam.
