The course will be carried out in cooperation with the EALT Legal Writing and Global Legal Skills Autumn School at Masaryk University Brno and will be held from 9th to 13th October 2023 in Brno/CZ. In order to complete registration for the class and to prepare for the excursion, presence in the online preparatory meeting on 28 September 2023 at 15:30 [NEW MEETING DATE is 28 September instead of 29 September) is compulsory. Presence throughout the entire class sessions (full day classes between 9 and 13 October in Brno) is required. In duly justified cases (collisions with other classes in Vienna) the presence requirement can be substituted for one day by alternative accomplishments. Travel and subsistence (housing, meal) costs for the one week stay in Brno have to be borne by the participants themselves.

We will assess the output according to the standards of good legal writing, and the individual level of the participant's legal writing tasks (seminar paper, master thesis, doctoral thesis).assessment: "participated with success" (+) or "participated without success" (-)

(i) legal writing;
(ii) reading cases globally; briefing a case;
(iii) argumentation and presentation skills;
(iv) organization of sources:
(v) appellate writing;
(vi) finding the necessary information in books, journals, and case law;
(vii) citation skills: making correct citations, and avoiding copyright infringements (plagiarism);
(viii) find important information;
(ix) formal rules and structures for writing legal documents, seminar papers, and final papers.Interactive class sessions in a highly international environment will stimulate active discussions and exchange between students and instructors. Presentations and basic input by the lecturers will accompany group exercises and presentations in class.
