Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung
The course provides a general introduction on EU competition policy (Europäische Wettbewerbspolitik). The course first starts with an overview of the goals and historical evolution of EU competition policy. Secondly, the course provides an overview of the key economics concepts and the main economics theories underpinning the enforcement of EU competition policy. Thirdly, the course discusses the system of public and private enforcement of EU competition policy. Finally, the course analyzes the relationship between EU competition and sector-specific regulation in network industries and with intellectual propertyThe course is suitable for students who are interested to deepen their knowledge on EU law competition law (Kartellrecht).
Art der Leistungskontrolle und erlaubte Hilfsmittel
The evaluation is based on a final written exam. During the exam, students are required to reply to 4 questions, essay style, concerning the topics discussed during the classes. The exam is closed books.Students who actively participate in the class by summarizing the facts and the content of one of the judgments assigned as reading material will receive a “+”. Every “+” will increase the final grade of 0.25 points, up to a maximum of 1 point.
Mindestanforderungen und Beurteilungsmaßstab
Students are required to attend every class of the course and sign the attendance list distributed during the class. A maximum number of 2 absences will be tolerated per student.Students who skip more than 2 classes due to prolonged sickness should submit the medical krankmedung to the lecturer. In such case, the absence will not be counted. No other justification will be tolerated (i.e. jobs related reasons).Students are required to be enrolled on U:Space, at least on the waiting list. Erasmus/exchange students are invited to contact the Dekanat of the Law Faculty if they do not manage to enrol on U:Space in due time. The teacher does not guarantee the possibility to upload the final grade on U:Space to the students who are not regularly enrolled on U:Space.

The reading materials are based on ruling of the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU) and legislation shared with the students via Moodle platform.
