Information

Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung

The course discusses the judicial proceedings before the EU Court of Justice. In particular, the course focuses on the infringement, annulment, preliminary ruling proceedings, as well as failure to act. The judicial proceedings are discussed in the light of the relevant Treaty provisions and case law of the EU Court of Justice.

This is an advanced course, which builds upon the course VO Introduction to European Law, held during the winter term 2021/2022. Therefore, students are expected to have basic background knowledge about the EU institutions and the EU legal sources.

Art der Leistungskontrolle und erlaubte Hilfsmittel

IREWI students will take a single oral exam, covering the 3 courses included in Module 5, 'European Union Law'. IREWI students will take the oral exam with one of the Professors of the Department of European, International, and Comparative Law, automatically assigned in alphabetical order.

Erasmus/exchange students may take an oral exam with the teacher of the course. The oral exam will take place on 27th June 2022, from 9.00 to 12.00, in the room SEM 52 in Juridicum. The exam will take place in the English language. The grade and the number of ECTS credits for the present course will appear on the certificate listing the courses taken by the student during his/her Erasmus/exchange period at the University of Vienna.

Erasmus/exchange students who actively participate in the class by summarizing one of the rulings assigned as weekly reading material will receive a “+”. Every “+” will increase the final grade of the course of 0.25 points, up to a maximum of 1 point.
