Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung
Aims: This exercise serves as preparation for the EU law part of the FÜM I (diploma programme) or the European law part of the MP Introduction to International Law (IREWI). After completing the course, students will be familiar with the basics of EU law and be able to apply them for exam questions/cases in the context of FÜM 1 / MP Introduction to International Law.Contents: Fundamentals of the EU legal order (essential features, interaction between EU law and national law, legal protection, etc.), formal (organisational law, procedural law) and substantive EU law (fundamental freedoms, competition law).The exercise serves as exam preparation, but may not cover all contents completely. Additional, independent preparation for the module exams is required.Methods: Lecture, short case studies, revision questions.

Assessment:
- one intermediate and one final written test (dates and details tba)
- oral participation in the course is voluntary but will improve the gradePermitted materials:
- permitted aids are uncommented treaty texts such as: Code of European Law (currently: 28th edition), Code of Business and Law Study Edition (currently: 8th edition), other uncommented treaty texts, e.g. Blackstone's "EU Treaties & Legislation" (currently 32nd edition 2021-2022) as well as printed versions of the treaties (to be found on the EUR-Lex site http://eur-lex.europa.eu/collection/eu-law/treaties.html?locale=de) or also LexPack FÜM I.
- English dictionaryPermissible markings in the contract texts:
Color highlighting is permissible. Article references are permitted. In any case, additional comments, annotations, keywords or information are not permitted. Other markings (strikeouts, underlining, symbols, etc.) are not permitted if they obviously only serve to circumvent the prohibition on commenting. The insertion of post-its is permitted, but the post-its may only be labeled with references to the respective treaty provision (e.g. Art. 263 TFEU), but not with headings or keywords (e.g. action for annulment).

Prüfungsstoff
The course covers the script by Thomas Jaeger, "Introduction to European Union Law, Foundations - Institutions - Enforcement - Internal Market Rules" (2021). Alternatively, the German-language script by Thomas Jaeger, Einführung in das Europarecht (3rd ed., facultas, 2020) can be used for exam preparation.Please note that FÜM I will be held in German.
MP Introduction to International Law (IREWI) will be held in German up to and including the June 2023 exam week.
As of the October 2023 exam week, MP Introduction to International Law (IREWI) will be held in English.
