Information

Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung

Update (10th December 2021):
The course will remain digital till January 6th 2022.

Update (20th November 2021):
The course will be switched into online form 22nd November 2021 to 12th December 2021. Further information due to COVID19 will be updated asap. All materials will be found on Moodle Platform.

This course will focus on the everyday use of Chinese of 1a level. You will learn the basic expressions of greeting someone, introducing yourself, making an appointment, asking directions, ages or prices, and so on. Besides, you will get to know some basic cultural and economical background information about China, in order to help you in learning the language.
After this semester, you will learn around 300 Chinese characters. ( It is NOT compulsory to learn the writing of the characters, but you need to know the pronunciation and meaning of them and should be able to recgonize them when you are seeing them).
All learning materials will be put on Moodle-Platform at least one week before the course start and essential information will be sent to you via university Emails. The learning materials contain the text (Lesson 1-Lesson 10), new words, exercise, Chinese character exercise and audio data.

The course will be held on-site.

Regarding the learning of Modern Chinese, here are what we are going to do next:

1. Please check the Moodle platform one week before the course start (Sept. 27th 2021 ), get to know the functions such as forum, BBB room(in case of online learning), learning-material-downloading and homework-uploading, etc.

2. It is highly recommended that you read through the learning materials (at least Lesson 1) before the course starts.

3. The main structure of the Modern Chinese will be key words, the use of the key words, fix structures and exercise.

4. Homeworks should be handed in on time (you will see the deadline on Moodle), so that I will be able to correct the homework and give you feedback on time as well.

5. Dictations will be held every week (you will see the characters and please write down the correct Pinyin, namely the pronunciation of them)

You should download everything from Moodle. After the course, if you still have other questions, or you need to find a speaking partner, please post on the discussion forum, so that I or other students will answer your questions.(Please do not send me the Email, because your question could be a common question for all other students and the discussion on that question could be a valuble learning process for all of you.)

Art der Leistungskontrolle und erlaubte Hilfsmittel

Instead of a mid-term test, you will receive an open-book exam, so that you will get to know how the final exam looks like and you will have a basic evaluation of yourself at the same time, and surely know where you should put more attention to in the coming half semester.
Attendance rate will be based on the homework assignment.
You will also recieve 2 or 3 times Q&A in-class activity during the semester and it will be counted as part of your final score.

Mindestanforderungen und Beurteilungsmaßstab

The final score of yours will be based on your attendance rate (10%), your active in-class activity (20%), dictations (20%, the best two will be counted) and the final test (50%).
There is a strict regulation about your attendance rate. Absence more than 3 times means your final score will be graded automatically as 5. (If you are sick, please ask the doctor to issue a confirmation for you and that will not be counted as absence.)
