Information

Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung

The lecture is an introduction to the economic evaluation of health care.

It will focus in particular on the evaluation of health preferences, i.e.

how medical and economic studies assess how people value health and

survival. The course consists of a review of the different valuation

methods used in the literature and it will critically analyse their

fundamentals as well as their practical aspects (survey design and

econometrics). The idea of this course is to give students a solid

understanding of the issues involved in valuing health by looking into

microeconomics, social choice, questionnaire design and econometrics

related to health preferences.

Art der Leistungskontrolle und erlaubte Hilfsmittel

Students will have to work on a project

(may also be a group project) which will have to be handed in at the end

of the term. The project will most likely address a specific public health

issue in Austria, e.g. public provision of vaccines in Austria, etc.

Students may propose their own topics of interest.
