Information

Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung

The course deals with the value and the importance of islands in the process of globalisation. In the past fifty years and reinforced in recent times islands have repeatedly been the subject of political conflicts (e.g. South China Sea, Caribbean). The course will have a close look at these cases from a historical point of view.

Art der Leistungskontrolle und erlaubte Hilfsmittel

Students have to write a research paper, give an oral presentation, and have to participate in the debates and the review processes.

Mindestanforderungen und Beurteilungsmaßstab

Students are expected to attend all classes and meetings, to write a scientific paper (with critical footnotes, 70.000 characters + abstract), and to present the result of their research. The final version has to be submitted till March 31, 2018.

Prüfungsstoff

Guided research, discussion, scientific criticism, writing and presenting the research paper.
