i. EXAMINATION TOPICS / CONTENT TO BE LEARNED IN THE COURSE
Class participation: students are expected to come to class having read the assigned readings and participate in class exercises.
Groupwork: at the beginning of each class, we’ll spend 15-20 minutes in groups discussing your impressions of the texts and collecting questions/topics for general class discussion.
The last two sessions are devoted to a "mini-conference". For this occasion, students prepare a ca. 10-min presentation on a Gender Studies-related topic of their choice. The written version of the enhanced and revised "conference paper" will be submitted as final seminar paper.

The course aims to familiarize students with an array of theories, concepts, approaches, and methods commonly used within the interdisciplinary subject fields of Gender Studies and Women’s and Gender History. A related aim is to gain a basic understanding of how various disciplinary areas have incorporated the analytical category of gender.
Methods and skills to be acquired: working with historical sources; theoretical, textual, visual and discourse analysis; generating and processing data; interview techniques; policy analysis; oral presentation skills.c. CONTENTS
The course introduces a wide array of knowledge forms, analytical tools, and multiple methods in an effort to relate disciplinary fields and their commonly applied methods to each other. Disciplinary fields to be covered include: historical scholarship/women’s and gender history; theoretical perspectives on gender and feminist epistemology; post-colonial theory; visual culture; queer theory, natural and social sciences, policy studies.
