Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung
‘To Better Understand my Favorite Global History Book’We are living in a text-based professional culture. Especially, being a historian means reading. Besides historical sources, many journal articles, essays, and books must be worked through. In that process, one can sometimes lose one's bearings. This course is designed to help you make effective use of your reading load and successfully match it with your questions and research direction.Depending the size of the group all or only some participants will introduce their favorite global history book and provide a scan of the introduction to all students. In each unit we will discuss these inputs, discussants will provide helpful suggestions in light of the research question raised by the presenter. Moodle will serve to coordinate our interactions. Each student prepares three questions regarding every introductory text at hand. The questions and related considerations and suggestions will be posted into the Moodle student folder and discussed by the plenum in the respective unit.
