Information

Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung

This two-part intensive course takes place twice this semester: first on Friday 16.11. (12-18) and Saturday 17.11. (8-14); then again on Friday 18.01. (12-18) and Saturday 19.01. (8-14). Each Friday/Saturday combination is identical; the repetition is intended to allow even people with difficult schedules to attend.
The course is aimed at advanced students who have already begun working on their Diplomarbeit (MA-thesis) or will do so this semester. It complements regular EAP courses by offering essential input and practice on a single day, making it an ideal means of refreshing your thesis-writing skills. For a more open and regular forum in which to discuss specific problems with writing your thesis, see the weekly workshop.
The course covers the essentials of thesis-writing in the following areas: text structure, academic style, discussing and quoting sources, presenting your own research (methods, data and findings), finding your own voice and arguing your point. Questions related to research design, such as research questions, methods and aims, will not be discussed and should be addressed to your supervisor.
