Information

Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung

In this class we will analyse and discuss some of the most interesting and internationally successful plays of the last years, including Lee Hall's prize winning The Pitman Painters (which will be given its German premiere in the Volkstheater in May, when an exhibition of the paintings referred to in the play will also open in Vienna) and Tracy Letts' celebrated August: Osage County (which has just won the Pulitzer prize). The class will be blocked (in 2 hour classes). Participants are also invited to take part in the Conference of the Society for Contemporary Theatre and Drama in English, to be held in Vienna from 7 - 10 June, 2009, and to participate in the workshops and discussions there (students are expected to attend at least 1 half-day and to write a report on lectures/workshops of their choice). Dates of the classes: 13. 3. (introduction, signing up for topics); 3.4., 8.5., 15.5., 29.5., [7 - 10.6. (conference)], 12.6., 19.6. Students willing to give an early presentation about a play are invited to contact me.
