Information
Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung
This course surveys approaches to transfer or cross-linguistic influence in second language acquisition. We will review a range of theoretical (psycho)linguistic models of transfer and critically explore their conceptual foundations and empirical coverage. During the semester, students will build on this knowledge to develop an empirical research project which examines cross-linguistic influence in a specific subdomain of linguistics (syntax, phonetics/phonology, semantics).Students will have an overview of models of second language acquisition and the role of transfer in the course of L2 development. Students will be able to critically discuss approaches to cross-linguistic influence and its role in L2 development. They will be able to develop and address research questions on cross-linguistic influence based on sound theoretical and empirical knowledge.
