Information

Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung

In this introductory seminar we will look at literary texts dealing with historical events or personal memories across a variety of genres (history play, memoir, sonnet, ballad, ode) and literary periods. We will explore the ways in which history has inspired the literary imagination and how the past is imagined, mediated and constructed. Participants become familiar with a close reading of and critical approaches to these texts. Apart from being acquainted with basic skills and techniques for writing an academic paper they will also discuss a range of theoretical texts on the interface of history, literature and critical theory.

interactive, small-group and all-class discussion of literary and theoretical texts, reading assignments, oral presentations, written assignments, audio-presentation of poems, video clips, eLearning

Art der Leistungskontrolle und erlaubte Hilfsmittel

Regular attendance (no more than two sessions may be missed) and active participation in classroom discussions
oral presentation
portfolio consisting of two short writing tasks
term paper of 3,500 words (+/- 10%)

Mindestanforderungen und Beurteilungsmaßstab

Active participation: 10%
Oral presentation: 10%
Portfolio: 20%
Term paper: 60%
Students must attain at least 50% in each of the individual requirements and 60% altogether to pass the course.
Grading scale:
1: 100-91
2: 90-81
3: 80-71
4: 70-60
5: 59-0

Prüfungsstoff

There will be no written exam.
