Information

Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung

The course is intended for advanced students of English/Lehramt (UFE). Students will be asked to screen all the textbooks approved for teaching English at Austrian grammar schools (AHS-Oberstufe) for works of English literature, and to propose alternative options or a supplementary corpus of literary texts suitable for classroom teaching, notably in view of future "A-level" requirements ("Zentralmatura"). In addition, a range of texts from different genres will be offered to students in order to critically assess these texts' didactic potentials for teaching in the advanced ESL classroom (reference frame will be the current curriculum at Austrian AHS).

Requirements: Regular attendance; active participation in all discussions in class; home-assignments, one presentation per participant (PPT, max.15 mins per speaker); final exam to be written in class (consisting of an essay and a set of questions), which requires in-depth knowledge of all the primary texts and of the topics discussed in class.
