Information
Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung
Bryan Fuller’s TV series Hannibal (2013-2015) has drawn attention of critics and viewers for its complex characters, cinematic aesthetics, and engagement with intricate issues. What is the relationship between Fuller’s Hannibal and the original novels? What does the series borrow from Jonathan Demme’s Silence of the Lambs? How does Hannibal differ from other serial killer narratives? These are some of the questions that this course explores. Focusing on such issues as adaptation, quality TV, audience reception, veganism, cannibalism, consumption, queerness, and horror, this course examines the series’ visual aesthetics while paying attention to its narrative style. To fully analyze the complexity of Hannibal, this course includes various assignments, from group projects to creative writing.
