Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung
This course focuses on giving future teachers the opportunity to examine and work on their approach to teaching writing in the classroom. It covers theories behind different approaches to writing, and the practical aspects of materials development, assessment and feedback, as well as important considerations when planning a whole term’s work and assessing the way writing is presented in common course books used in many schools.
Art der Leistungskontrolle und erlaubte Hilfsmittel
The final course grade comprises:
An individual written assignment on writing theory;
An observation report on a writing activity taught in school;
A project on writing materials (as part of a group);
A final exam.
Three of the four parts as well as the overall score must be positive (above 60%).

Mindestanforderungen und Beurteilungsmaßstab
The major aims are to
develop a basic understanding of fundamental concepts in teaching writing with a special focus on the classroom context in Austrian schools;
understand how to implement these concepts in the selection, development and evaluation of writing activities ;
understand the links between assessment, testing, learning and teaching;
encourage participants to use published material effectively as well as to be confident in preparing their own materials.

Prüfungsstoff
There will be both group and individual work throughout the semester. Active student participation is expected in both. Participants are also required to keep a reflection journal detailing the development of their attitude and approach to writing throughout the semester. This will not be assessed.
