Information

Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung

Content and language integrated learning (CLIL) is a teaching approach where subjects, or parts of subjects, are taught through a foreign language with dual-focussed aims, namely the learning of content, and the simultaneous learning of a foreign language. This approach has since its gestation in the mid 90ies become a widely-accepted feature in mainstream education systems in Europe.
In this course, we will explore the potential of this approach by critically exploring and reflecting on CLIL methodological principles as applied in real-world projects and situations. We will try out various CLIL activities, games and techniques. The following aspects will be the cornerstones of this highly interactive and practice-oriented course:
• CLIL awareness - from personal beliefs to informed knowledge
• Languaging in CLIL:
o Genre, register, and academic vocabulary in CLIL
• Foundations for the teaching of CLIL:
o Towards a methodology of CLIL
• CLIL – an overview of the Austrian context and a European perspective
This course is specifically targeted towards students with (at least) ONE content subject who want to improve their learners' foreign language competence by teaching the content subject through the target language English.
