Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung

It is the aim of this course to provide students with a basic toolkit for analysing literary texts. There will be a couple of introductory units, in which I will give you a brief theoretical
background and review the basic concepts of literary analysis (narrative techniques, genre, point of view etc.) and critical approaches to literature you are going to need for your presentations and your essay. After the few introductory sessions, we will discuss selected literary texts from different genres and periods from various critical angles.

Art der Leistungskontrolle und erlaubte Hilfsmittel

Active class participation, oral presentation in groups of 3-4 students, written exam, short essay to be submitted at the end of February

Prüfungsstoff

Lecture / teacher input, class discussions, student presentations

Aphra Behn "Oroonoko", Wilkie Collins "The Moonstone", William Shakespeare "Othello", Mary Shelley "Frankenstein", Bram Stoker "Dracula". All of the longer texts are available at the bookstore "Facultas am Campus" and should be purchased there so that all students have the same editions of the texts.
