Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung
This workshop will answer a great variety of questions about the theory and analysis of narrative that students (probably) have never asked or dared to ask. We will cover a wide range of aspects, from such abstract concepts as narrativity or metatextuality to very practical questions of how narratives begin or end, how novels or short stories are mediated, how a reader can recognize an unreliable narrator or how suspense is created. We will always explore these problems in the process of analysing texts.

Mindestanforderungen und Beurteilungsmaßstab
Introduce students to theoretical and practical issues of the analysis of narrative. By examining a wide variety of texts and excerpts from texts of all periods of English literature participants will learn to apply theroetical concepts in their study and evaluation of narrative texts.
Prüfungsstoff
Introduction to narratology, model analyses; students' presentations, class discussions.
Literatur
A list of texts and a reader will be provided at the beginning of term.
