Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung

The seminar focuses on private archival cuneiform sources from first millennium Babylonia. We will discuss textual philological aspects, as well as socio-economic issues reflected in the primary sources.
Regarding COVID 19 restrictions and guidelines:
The seminar is conducted in class, in accordance to the COVID 19 Univie current safety guidelines. Due to the unstable situation and the associated uncertainties, however, a high degree of flexibility is required. Accordingly, the seminar may transfer to be held (live) ONLINE via one of the universities platforms. Distance and hygiene rules must be observed in any case.

Art der Leistungskontrolle und erlaubte Hilfsmittel

Preparation of primary texts, reading of secondary literature, and an oral presentation. For students completing their BA within this course and MA students, a thesis or seminar paper is required.

Mindestanforderungen und Beurteilungsmaßstab

In order to receive a passing grade for this course, students are expected to: participate actively in primary text reading and discussions; give an oral presentation (c. 20–30 minutes) on a given topic; write a final paper (BA and MA only). Participation is mandatory and students are allowed three absences. All requirements must be completed in accordance with best scientific practices and the instructor’s directions.
The evaluation criteria are as follows:
Attendance and participation, including preparation of texts and secondary readings: 30% (70% for students who do not require a final paper)
Presentation: 20% (30% for students who are not required for a final paper)
Thesis/seminar paper: 50%

Prüfungsstoff

Active participation in class and short presentations.

Literatur

Readings will be provided on Moodle, there is no required reading for the first day.
