Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung

The Introduction to the Japanese Language, Japanese Grammar I, and Japanese Communication are intended to be taken together in the same semester, please register for all three.

COVID CONSIDERATIONS:
Due to the unforeseeable nature of a global pandemic, spontaneous changes to the lesson may apply. Students will be informed about changes asap via email and Moodle. These possible changes include but are not limited to: moving from in person to online lesson, changes in assignments, online testing and other social distancing measures.
Please do not attend classes in case of suspicion of COVID, related symptoms or COVID cases your immediate environment. Please contact your instructor and remote learning measures will be taken.

OBJECTIVE:
This course covers pronunciation, spoken and written communication in various everyday situations. It is complementary to “Japanese Grammar I” and meant to be taken at the same time. The lesson covers the practical application of Japanese to “Japanese Grammar I”.

PREREQUISITES:
* Teaching language: English (C1 equivalent or better)
* Completed Lesson “Introduction to the Japanese Language”
* advance registration
* textbook (see below)
* You should budget about 10 hours per week of additional study time for lesson preparation, homework, assignments, etc. acting in synergy with the complementary lesson (see above).

GOALS:
* understand spoken Standard Japanese as used in certain everyday situations
* (re)act and communicate appropriately in these same situations
* read basic Japanese of familiar topics

Art der Leistungskontrolle und erlaubte Hilfsmittel

The course total is made up of homework (30%), mid-term exam (30%) and final exam (40%).

Mindestanforderungen und Beurteilungsmaßstab

* First time attendance concludes the course application, which means the course will be graded (even if you stop attending the class mid semester and do not take any exam). You can deregister within the deadline.
Unexcused missing of the first lesson will result in an automatic deregistration and students on waiting lists will fill the newly opened spot automatically.
If you should not be able to attend the first lesson please contact the instructor per email, you will be considered as excused and not automatically deregistered.

* There is a strict zero tolerance policy on cheating and plagiarism.

* More than 60 percentage points are required to pass the course (>60 → 4/D, >70→3/C, >80→2/B, >90→1/A).
