Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung
Historical evolution of the Chinese multilateral diplomacy since the founding of the People's Republic of China to the present day; Chinese multilateral diplomacy in various fields as security, arms control and disarmament, economic cooperation, environmental protection, regional cooperation, etc; Development of multilateralism in China's foreign policy orientation; Evaluation of reasons and motives of the development of Chinese multilateral diplomacy and multilateralism.
Art der Leistungskontrolle und erlaubte Hilfsmittel
The final assessment will consist of three parts: group or individual preparation and presentation 20%; performance in class 25%; final exam 55%.The final exam will take place in the last week of the semester. The students have one week to write their papers on a given topic and shall hand them in at the last lecture time. Oral presentation, if necessary, is at the last lecture time.
Mindestanforderungen und Beurteilungsmaßstab
The objective of this course is to let the students acquire some knowledge and research input about Chinese multilateral diplomacy from the founding of the People’s Republic in 1949 to the present day. By introducing Chinese policies and practices on specific topics of nowadays international relations, the course is aimed at deepening the understanding of the students of the Chinese foreign policy and acquiring the skills to analyse the orientation and motives of such development.
Prüfungsstoff
Students will form different groups or work individually. They will be given topics and/or reference reading material for the preparation of the presentation before the lectures. In class, students of one group shall present their preparation on the topic. After introduction by the teacher, students shall participate in simulated decision making processes and the following discussion. Every student should be prepared to answer questions on subjects under consideration and present his/her own views.
