This course uses continuous assessment (Prüfungsimmanent), active participation throughout the semester is therefore part of the final grade. This includes but is not limited to: Being prepared for classes and homework. There will also be a written midterm and final test and one oral test.
No materials or aids are permitted during tests (suitable exceptions will be made for students with disabilities).

Homework 15%
Essays 2.5%X4 total of 10%
Active participation 5%More than 60 percentage points are required to pass the course
Components weighted as above and translated into grades as follows:
>90% Excellent (1/A)
>80% Good (2/B)
>70% Satisfactory (3/C)
>60% Acceptable (4/D)
<=60% Failed (F)* Attendance is mandatory. Minimum attendance is 80%. (unexcused or excused does not matter)* There is a strict zero tolerance policy on cheating and plagiarism.* First time attendance concludes the course application, which means the course will be graded (even if you stop attending the class mid semester and do not take any tests). You can deregister within the deadline.
Unexcused missing of the first lesson will result in an automatic deregistration and students on waiting lists will fill the newly opened spot automatically.
If you should not be able to attend the first lesson please contact the lecturer per email, you will be considered as excused and not automatically deregistered.

* Understand basic spoken and written Japanese (with the use of aids, like dictionaries, apps, etc.), including business- or economics- related content written for a general audience;
* Read a few hundred of the most common Kanji;
* Write simple Japanese (with the use of aids), i.e. E-mails;
* Improve their Japanese skills through self-study, with the aid of educational material;In addition to classroom attendance please plan for approximately 10 hours of self-study to prepare for classes, make homework, memorize vocabulary, Kanji, etc.
