Information
Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung
This seminar is about locality, a central notion in the Principles and Parameters framework, according to which all syntactic relations, whether created by movement or by binding, are local (i.e. do not exceed a certain 'length', or 'distance'). Topics to be discussed include locality in A-movement (passives, raising), object shift, scrambling, islands, and successive cyclic movement.
Art der Leistungskontrolle und erlaubte Hilfsmittel
Students are expected to attend, come to class prepared (i.e. do the readings in advance), make a presentation with a handout, and write a seminar paper. (Details will be discussed in class.)
Mindestanforderungen und Beurteilungsmaßstab
Solide Kenntnisse des Phänomenbereichs, kritische Würdigung der wichtigsten theoretischen Arbeiten zum Thema.
