Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung
Mental processes are attributes of biological organisms and their brains. This seminar provides basic information of biological processes, which define and support life. The focus will be at regulatory mechanisms with a central role of brain.Content: Basics of human biology for psychologists. Biochemical basics of life, metabolism. Cell and tissue. Neuron, neuronal tissue, nervous system. Cellular communication, signalization. Endocrine and neural regulation. Genetics, behavioral genetics.
Art der Leistungskontrolle und erlaubte Hilfsmittel
Multiple choice tests, oral presentations (topics will be announced well in advance), activity and course participation.
Mindestanforderungen und Beurteilungsmaßstab
There are no special requirements to enter this introductory course. Interest in biological psychology is an advantage.
To provide insights into important areas of scientific work, such as searching for literature, making citations, and designing experiments - To train the ability to critically assess research articles - To provide an overview of current topics in the fields of perceptual and cognitive psychology - To write a term paper according to academic standards

Prüfungsstoff
The final note will reflect performance on several measures as listed above.

There no one specific textbook for this course. Generally recommended is Bear et al.: Neurosciences.
