The seminar is set within the context of social and environmental psychology, specifically observable prosocial and pro-environmental behaviour. We will focus on field observations as the method of choice and conduct a study together, probably set on the campus of the old AKH. The basic question is “how often do bystanders intervene if someone leaves an item on a bench”? Additional questions may include: What is the role of distance between bystander and bench, of speed of walking, of the nature of the item etc. These details will be confirmed in the seminar.
Content will include taught elements and group work, reading of key papers, in-class discussion, joint study design and operationalisation, data collection and analysis and presentation of the progress and results. The course is designed to make students familiar with research in practice, acquire practical skills and competencies for psychological research activities in the field.
