Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung
In this seminar, we are elaborating a transnational feminist perspective in order to deal with global gender inequalities and transformations of gender relations. A transnational feminist perspective aims at transcending the "methodological nationalism"; of mainstream research. Instead of conceptualizing the nation state as "container" the focus is on the multiple and complex relations and interconnections of global inequalities. The seminar is divided into three parts:In the first part we are elaborating a common theoretical basis in transnational feminist theory. In the second part we will discuss and specify this perspectives using the examples of(a) migration (border regimes, integration/multiculturalism),(b) reproductive labour (the transnational division of housework)(c) body and violence. Finally, we will focus on the possibilities of transnational feminist solidarities and political agency in a third part. Starting from the insight that feminism itself does not operate outside power relations, we will discuss new forms of "reflected solidarity" (Mohanty) which take seriously the differences of women's positions and experiences.
