Information
Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung
This course deals with research designs and data collection in communication science and is split into two integrated parts: Introduction to Research Designs and Data Collection and Planning Research Designs and Data Collection. The lectures will emphasize theoretical aspects of study planning and design, while the other part will have a more practical focus, demonstrating research design and data collection procedures. Students will actively engage by analyzing and discussing research studies published in scientific journals. They will also be guided through hands-on, practical laboratory sessions where they can practice research design and data collection techniques. Additionally, guest lectures will present specific research approaches. The course seamlessly integrates qualitative and quantitative research aspects within the field of communication science. A central objective of this course is to provide an overview of various approaches to designing studies and collecting data in communication science. It aims to equip participants with the skills needed to independently conduct their own research projects.Participants will collaborate in groups for assignments and brief presentations. They will attend lectures and successfully complete a final exam at the end of the semester.
Art der Leistungskontrolle und erlaubte Hilfsmittel
A general knowledge quiz is expected to be completed in person on Moodle, and various projects and presentations will be conducted in groups during the course.
Mindestanforderungen und Beurteilungsmaßstab
The classes combine lectures and exercises.
I expect the class (apart from the lectures) to be interactive in which the students are driving the discussion.
I hope to create a trusting and fun learning environment in which you can safely express your ideas.
Please do all your work professionally and turn it in on time.Your written work should be typed, double-spaced, with 2.5 cm margins and 12-point font size (all written work/presentations should follow APA Guidelines, 6th ed.).
