Information
Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung
This seminar is an introduction to "political economy". While political economy can mean different things and refer to different approaches, the usage here will be broad and post-disciplinary. We will look at the complex interdependencies between politics and the economy - two operationally autonomous but substantively interdependent systems - and the key contribution of discourses, and ideas more generally, to the shaping of political and economic structures and strategies in different contexts.
Art der Leistungskontrolle und erlaubte Hilfsmittel
regular attendance and participation, reading of selected texts and journal articles in preparation for the seminar, presentations, term paper at the end of the semester
Mindestanforderungen und Beurteilungsmaßstab
In this seminar we seek to break with conventional - and often arbitrary - disciplinary boundaries between economic and political analysis to propose an alternative approach. To this end, we will also engage in the discussion of analytical controversies such as the structure-agency-debate. Ultimately, we will develop a (post-disciplinary) political-economic perspective for the analysis of (complex) political and economic processes.
