Information

Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung

The number of projects where scientists and artists aim to cooperate is currently increasing. Furthermore, the terms 'research' and 'method' found their way into in the context of artistic creation. This trend is encouraged by research organizations who started to launch funding programs that should explore the interfaces between science and art.
During the seminar, four central questions will be addressed (1) what are the characteristics of such projects and how does the role allocation take place?, (2) which institutional-organizational settings and relations can be found?, (3) what kind of (knowledge) gains and challenges are expected from this interactions and cooperations?, (4) what kind of assessment criteria for transdisciplinary approaches can be applied, since these cooperations may entail dissolving boundaries that may challenge traditional assessment criteria for both the arts and sciences?
The aim of the course is to investigate this heterogeneous and cross-disciplinary field on the basis of international examples and selected literature. By means of joint reading, empirical group work, presentations and excursions, crucial questions / issues / topics are discussed and explored / experienced. Students will be challenged to do research on their own and to compare different methodological approaches. Furthermore, they will be encouraged to experiment with the combination of methodological frameworks.
