Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung

This introductory course in political anthropology provides an in-depth exploration of the key concepts and paradigms of the field, as well as its historical development. It focuses on recent debates that have shaped the study of power, political systems, post-colonialism, globalization, and political violence within anthropology.

By the end of the course, students should be able to:

- Understand the basic concepts and theoretical frameworks of political anthropology.
- Analyze both historical and contemporary perspectives within the field.
- Explore the role of the state in social dynamics, including aspects of violence and coercion.
- Examine the impact of globalization on political structures and cultural identities.

The course will be held in English.

Art der Leistungskontrolle und erlaubte Hilfsmittel

The course will be accompanied by a tutor; tutor dates will be announced at the beginning of the semester. A maximum of 10% bonus points may be earned upon successful completion of tutor meetings.
The tutor of the course is Monika Litke.

There will be a final exam for this class worth 100% of the final grade.
The exam will include multiple-choice and open-ended questions. No aids will be allowed during the exam.
Exam date: June 24.

Mindestanforderungen und Beurteilungsmaßstab

In order to get a positive grade, you need at least 60 out of a possible 100 points. The following grading scale will be used:

1 ("sehr gut"): 90-100 points
2 ("gut"): 80-89 points
3 ("befriedigend"): 70-79 points
4 ("genügend"): 60-69 points
5 ("nicht genügend"): 0-59 points

Prüfungsstoff

The exam will cover not only the required readings but also the material covered in class.
