Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung
The course provides an understanding of the migration and development nexus that motivates international economic relations towards more open and accountable development paths.

Mindestanforderungen und Beurteilungsmaßstab
Develop an understanding of migration as an essential and inevitable component of the economic and social life of countries;Understand some of the important factors influencing the decision to migrate and the direction of migration;Understand how migration is deeply integrated into the workings of the global market;Examine the down side of economic and social trends for majority of migrants, refugees, and displaced people;Evaluate possible future scenarios for forced migration as a result of environmental stress with a view to increasing awareness of the challenges that lie ahead.
Prüfungsstoff
This is a readings course, and will be taught in English. Materials for obligatory reading will be assigned ahead of class. Students are encouraged to attend class regularly and to actively participate in class discussions. Each student shall write and submit a term paper (of between 10-12 pages) in partial fulfillment of course requirements. Each student shall submit a one-page outline of his/her planned paper and make a brief presentation of the subject matter of the term paper. Each student may be required to critique two or three published papers in a report not exceeding two pages.
Literatur
Mostly journal paper. Reading list will be provided. Readings may be assigned from outside the reading list.
