Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung

Traveling and reporting back to the center of imperial power had a massive impact on diverse art genres and a growing popular pleasure in tales of adventure, mystery and suspense, danger and terror. The seminar explores colonial imagination in selected works starting with the storytelling of Agatha Christie and its visual adaptions.
This is an inter-active course. Apart from introductory input and impulse lecturing the seminar is based on intense communication, open discussion, active contribution and group work of all participants, and makes use of multi-media materials and seminal texts.

Art der Leistungskontrolle und erlaubte Hilfsmittel

Continuous assessment, 20 minutes presentation and a final seminar paper.

Mindestanforderungen und Beurteilungsmaßstab

Marking is based on active participation including collective and peer-group discussion (20%), 20 minutes presentation (35%), and final paper (aprox. 25.000 characters; 45%).
Closing date for final paper delivery: 31.07.2023

Prüfungsstoff

The assessment load is constituted by notions, concepts and approaches that were presented, examined and debated in the course as well as the discussed case studies; all work done by the participants, whether collectively or independently.
