Information

Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung

Studying mathematics at university is very challenging, specially since it is very different from high-school and students do not know how to study.
This course is a mixture of learning strategies, experiences from previous students, tips to tackle anxiety, and it even contains some references to personal growth.
It is mostly aimed at STEOP students (from both the scientific and Lehramt branches), but it can benefit students of any year.

The course is completely asynchronous: the materials (videos and text) can be explored at any time. Though there will be some follow-up material as the semester progresses depending on feedback (if you want to receive notifications, join the course on Moodle). There will be some in-person sessions to answer questions and maybe do a mock exam.

Content
1. Mathematics at University: everything is different (video and reading of a personal experience).
2. Basic management

Literatur

Main reference: Alcock, Lara. "How to study for a mathematics degree". OUP Oxford, 2012.

Books on personal growth:
- "The 7 habits of highly effective people", by Stephen R. Covey . This is the number one recommendation
- "Search Inside Yourself" by Chade-Meng Tan. - A gentle introduction to mindfulness and meditation (with scientific background)
- "Radical Acceptance", by Tara Brach.
- "Loving what is" by Katie Byron Audiobook (there is also a book, but I recommend the audiobook).
