Information

Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung

The purpose of the course is to deepen students' understanding of transmission electron microscopy (TEM) by covering in more detail topics introduced during the course "M-CORE 11: Scattering, microscopy and spectroscopy" (which, in addition to "260023 PUE Programming for Physicists", should be considered a prerequisite unless the student has independently learned about TEM), as well as introducing some more advanced topics.

The course meetings will start with brief theoretical background, which will be made concrete by running TEM simulations using the abTEM code. These will be followed by exercises where the students will adapt example code to complete a requested task and analyze the results.

The expected outcome is for students to be able to directly model various TEM signals at a level that is applicable to actual research questions.

Art der Leistungskontrolle und erlaubte Hilfsmittel

Evaluation will be done on an ongoing basis by the completion of exercises given during the course; the students can use any resources they would like in addition to asking questions.

Mindestanforderungen und Beurteilungsmaßstab

For successful completion of the course, the students need to complete at least 50% of the exercises. Grade will be given based on the percentage and correctness of the solutions beyond this minimum requirement.

Prüfungsstoff

Exercises will be given as Jupyter notebook code examples that need to be completed by the students.

Literatur

Will be given if needed.
