Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung
Objectives: After completing this course, students have gained insight into different mass spectrometric (MS) applications in the fields of food safety, exposome research, and analytical toxicology. They know the necessary steps of LC-MS method development, optimization, and data evaluation. Furthermore, students will be able to judge the quality and the ‘greenness’ of a certain method. Discussing the advantages and disadvantages of different approaches and related applications will be an important part of the seminar.Contents: Based on the knowledge acquired in the initial sessions, various applications of mass spectrometric methods in food chemistry, exposome research and/or toxicology will be discussed and the knowledge will be deepened based on the specific background and interests of the students flexibly. The content of this seminar includes the coupling of liquid chromatographic separation methods with different types of mass spectrometers (triple quadrupoles, Q-ToF, Orbitrap, ...).Method: Short lectures serve as a repetition of the basic knowledge and for the definition of important terms. In the context of individual and/or group work and exercises, a variety of specific real-world applications are covered. A short oral presentation of a relevant publication rounds off the course. To get the best possible benefit from this course, it is recommended to have attended the lecture 270035 Mass Spectrometry in advance. If capacity allows, this seminar might be visited by external students and trainees within the framework of the ‘Exposome Austria’ research infrastructure. If there are more interested students than places, students of the Master "Food Chemistry" have priority.

Mindestanforderungen und Beurteilungsmaßstab
Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
Attendance is compulsory. In the case of well-justified and previously excused absence from a unit, a short examination on the material covered in that unit may be conducted if necessary. To achieve a positive grade, 50% of the maximum possible number of points must be achieved. Each partial performance must be completed at the end of the course.
