Information
Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung
Art der Leistungskontrolle und erlaubte Hilfsmittel
Selected topics of formation, evolution, and structure of Dwarf Galaxies will be elaborated from the literature and individually presented by talks. A vital participation during the course is expected.
Very welcome are students with particular interest in extragalactic astrophysics.

Mindestanforderungen und Beurteilungsmaßstab
The students should be currently involved into master study in Astronomy, i.e. having finished their Bachelor study, or have successfully completed their master degree. Interest and knowledges in extragalactic Astrophysics are advantageous for a successful understanding, discussion, and presentation of the topic. Recaps of previous sessions will be asked and discussed.
The successful evaluation requires 80% participation in the courses and one presentation of selective recent publications for 30-45 min by each participant.
Individual grades will depend on active participation and scientific contributions during the courses, the gained knowledge, and the quality of the presentation.

This lecture will at first introduce into the morphological classification of dwarf galaxies, correlate their structural properties with their existence as satellites, as clusters members, and in the field, and explore the physical processes causing such variety. Moreover, we will shed light on the formation paths of dwarf galaxies in tidal arms of encounters/mergers of massive galaxies and the possible origin of the newly detected classes of ultra-compact and ultra-diffuse DGs.
