Additional infomations:
As, due to the Covid19 situation, it is currently not possible to pass 12 students through our 10 neuroscientific laboratories throughout the different centers in Vienna, we have adupt the program to the following way:

After a short introduction by myself the “UE Basics of Neuroscience (301325 UE)” will start with the online tutorial form the Neurophysiology department for all 24 students for two and a half day. Within the next two week there will be a Morning lecture series from 9:00 to 10:30 focusing on i) the technique used in the research unit and ii) the main project using this technique. Please find the time schedule below:

19.Apr Neuroanatomy Romana Höftberger
20.Apr Molecular Biology Johannes Berger, Isabelle Weinhofer
21.Apr Neuroimmunology Monika Bradl, Jan Bauer
22.Apr Biochemistry Petra Scholze, Margot Ernst
23.Apr Synaptogenesis Inga Koneczny, Ruth Herbst
26.Apr Optical Imaging Klaus Becker, Ullrich Dodt
27.Apr Molecular Neuroscience Igor Adamiko, Roman Romanov
28.Apr Mouse Behavior Daniela Pollak
29.Apr Cognitiv Neuroscience Balint Lasztoczi, Hugo Malagon Vina
30.Apr fMRI Roland Beilsteiner, Pedro De Lima Cardoso

The attendance of this Morning lecture series is obligatory and will be checked at the beginning. I will host the Zoom in these two weeks for this lecture series.

The students will join one lab for three weeks and learn one technique in depth. We aim to have only one student in each research unit.
The students will be able to grade the research units in accordance to their interest in the named technique and will then be allocated to one of them. To this end please send me the name of the PI finally supervising the student at the bench and the technique the student can in detail learn during this 3 week period.

At the end the students will have to perform a Moodle test concerning short questions on the techniques presented in the Morning lecture series. The stile will be "open book stile" but only 2 hours time to answer the 11 questions (one from each technical part of the morning lecture series and one question form the neurophysiology block). The test can not be repeated if failed and the test has to be performed at the indicated time.

It is important that you register before February 25 2021 as we otherwise can not send you the link to the pre-discussion of the Lab course taht will take place on March 1st at 16:00 by ZOOM meeting.

The grading will be based to 25% on the result of the MOODLE exam (open book format) and to 75% on the lab work, literature reading ets in the respective lab.

Mindestanforderungen und Beurteilungsmaßstab

Atendancy at all morning lectures and in the online electrophysiology block as well as the three weeks in the lab. In addition the result of the MOODEL test will contribute to the grading (25%) as well as the grading of the direct PI (75%). A total positiv grading is alrady reached by the attendancy and a reasonabel lab perfomance as the PI grading will account for 75%.
