Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung
AIMSAim of the course is to provide the students a comprehensive overview of the research field of two-dimensional materials focusing on the related physical phenomena and experimental approaches to address them. The course is aimed towards the end of master studies or for doctoral studies. Recommended knowledge before the course includes basics of solid state physics, materials physics as well as laboratory courses such as "Advanced Materials" or "Low-Dimensional Solids".CONTENTSSimilar to other low-dimensional materials, two-dimensional materials provide exciting possibilities for materials science through their unique properties. At the same time, however, they pose a challenge for the researchers due to the difficulties involved in addressing their intrinsic properties. During this course, we will go through recent literature that covers basic properties of the members of this new materials class as well as experiments demonstrating ways to study them.METHODSThis course will follow a flipped learning approach; material (mostly scientific articles, but possibly also videos and other content) will be provided on a weekly basis for the students with questions and/or points for discussion. The students will send in their answers and/or questions on the material one week before the lecture where they will be then discussed.
Art der Leistungskontrolle und erlaubte Hilfsmittel
Oral examination
Mindestanforderungen und Beurteilungsmaßstab
Oral examination covering the topics of the lectures. Requirements for a positive assessment are a thorough understanding of the relevant physical phenomena, presenting and processing the information using graphs and calculations where appropriate, and drawing valid conclusions supported by justification.
Prüfungsstoff
Material provided during the course, with stress on the topics discussed during the lectures
Literatur
Relevant literature will be provided during the course
