Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

This course will provide students with an overview of religion in East Asia (i.e., China/Taiwan, Mongolia, Korean Peninsula, and Japan). Using a comparative perspective, we will examine country specific religious policy, doctrine, and practice. With a heavy emphasis on in-class discussion, we will begin by exploring government policies on religion in East Asia and we will then specifically look at Buddhism, Daoism, Confucianism, Shinto, Korean Shamanism, and popular religion.
