    The lecture will take place from 02.03.2025-31.03.2025. There will be a double hour lecture every week. On the weekend of March 28 and 29, there will be a block course on peace and conflict ethics.

    Aims, contents and method of the course

    The lecture complements the lecture “Social Ethics I”. In the area of basic social ethics, it concentrates on the relationship between social theory and social ethics as well as on current social teaching of the Church. The course looks at the normative orientations of human rights, justice and responsibility and focuses on politics and ecology as contexts of Christian social ethics. Labor,, education and peace/conflict are subject of the lecture as fields of action of social ethics.

    Please note that the lecture is designed as a face-to-face course. The lectures will NOT be broadcasted live or recorded.
    A block course on peace and conflict ethics is planned for the weekend of March 28 and 29 (Friday 15:00-18:15; Saturday 09:45-15:00). Participation is strongly recommended!

    Assessment and permitted materials

    Written exam of 90 minutes on four announced dates. A TEMPUS registration 6-2 days before the exam is necessary in addition to the u:space registration.

    The course examination is held in German.

    At the student's request and upon request at sozialethik@univie.ac.at, the examin can also be taken in englisch (englisch questionnaire).

    Permitted aids for the exam: none

    Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

    Assessment standard:
    o Very good: All performances show a demanding, intensive and independent examination of the content of the course.
    o Good: All performances are well thought out and well elaborated.
    o Satisfactory: Within the scope of the work performed, the topics of the course were dealt with in a sufficiently critical manner.
    o Sufficient: The minimum requirements for a positive assessment have been met.
    o Unsatisfactory: The minimum requirements for a positive assessment were not met
    The written assignments are assessed using a points system. For a positive assessment of the written assignments, an average score of more than 50 points out of a possible 100 must be achieved.

    Grading key:
    100-92= 1 (very good)
    91-81= 2 (good)
    80-67= 3 (satisfactory)
    66-50=4 (sufficient)
    below 50= 5 (not sufficient)

    Examination topics

    The examination material is the lecture content and any agreed compulsory reading.
