Aims, contents and method of the course
Assessment and permitted materials
The students will be graded both on their active participation in groups discussion at the seminar and on their individual written work that can be submitted either in English or German.
Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
Mandatory participation in the seminars. Students may be absent two times without special cause. Students must achieve a minimum of 50 points to pass.
Written paper is worth 40 points, seminar presentations are worth 40 points, and participation in seminar discussion is worth 20 points.
1 (sehr gut) -> 100-89 points
2 (gut) -> 88-76 points
3 (befriedigend) -> 75-63 points
4 (genügend) -> 62-50 points
5 (nicht genügend) -> 49-0 points

Spirituality plays a prominent role in the Eastern Orthodox traditions and in the construction of contemporary Eastern Orthodox identity. This seminar will explore some classics works of spirituality to present important authors and theological themes in traditions of Eastern Orthodox spirituality.Learning activities
