Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
The course serves as introduction to the religious studies, the acquisition of the theoretical foundations of the subject and an introduction to the methods of religious studies. The students learn about the controversial discussions about the basic concepts of the subject and, on this basis, develop a basic understanding of the contemporary discussion of methods. The demarcation of religious studies from other disciplines that deal with religions (especially theology and philosophy of religion) is discussed and the interaction of the subject with neighboring philological-historical, cultural and social science disciplines is presented.
Assessment and permitted materials
By enroling in the course, participants agree that all written work created as part of this course must be uploaded to Moodle and checked for plagiarism.

Each participant must give a presentation (30 minutes) in the course and write an in-depth essay (approx. 25,000 characters including spaces) on the topic they have presented by the end of the semester.

The written essay (permitted resources: specialist literature and specialist dictionaries) deals in depth with the advantages and disadvantages of the presented method of religious studies. The course can only be completed if both pieces of work (presentation and essay) have been completed successfully and regular participation is guaranteed. Group work serves to deepen and prepare one's own work and is not graded (is not part of the performance assessment), but must be completed.
