Die Vorlesung behandelt den Themenbereich von Schrift als einer entscheidenden Form der Selbstkonstitution von Glaubensgemeinschaften, nimmt einen theologischen Standpunkt ein und hat dabei im Zentrum die biblischen Glaubensgemeinschaften jüdischer und christlicher Tradition. Daher ergibt sich auch die Frage nach der Bedeutung von Traditionen von selbst, ebenso die Frage nach deren Wirkungen und Wirksamkeiten, die sich mitunter deutlich über den eigenen Bereich hinaus erstrecken.

According to current planning (11 August 2020), the lecture in lecture hall 1 will take place as a so-called hybrid teaching: According to the seating arrangements, a certain number of students will be present in the lecture hall, while the other part will follow the lecture digitally synchronously via video stream. The distribution of the groups that will be present will be done via Moodle platform.
The first lecture unit on 7 Oct. 2020, 9.45-11.45 a.m. will be held digitally via Moodle (BigBlueButton). You will have access to it on the Moodle page of the " Basic Course Fundamental Theology II".

UPDATE 7.10.2020: Since the total number of students registered for the lecture is significantly lower than the maximum number of available seats in lecture hall 1, there is no need to organize present and digital groups on Moodle platform. Every student registered für this course can attend the lecture in person.

Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

The main aim of the course is to grasp and understand the close connection between writing, text, and knowledge in the context of religious traditions in order to be able to distinguish between different text-bound claims of biblical religions. A further aim is to be able to reflect such distinctions in terms of different methods of transmission in which texts have been handled and interpreted in Jewish and Christian discourses and settings, exemplified by examples in history and the present.

- Scripture - canon - dogma
- Concept of tradition

- Lecture and presentations; discussions

Assessment and permitted materials

Oral exam of 15 minutes consisting of two independent topics of the lecture series on at least four examination dates (see https://st-tgf-ktf.univie.ac.at/studium/pruefungstermine/wolfgang-treitler/) as well as in every office hour of the following semester (registration via email to wolfgang.treitler@univie.ac.at).
The examination for this course can be taken until the end of the winter semester 2021/22.
According to the current scheduling status (11 August 2020), the exams will be conducted digitally orally via the Jitsi platform.
Permitted aids during the examination:
None

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

The oral examination consists of at least two independent questions or topics. A positive assessment of the examination is achieved if at least 50% of the answers to each question area are correct. - The examination performance is assessed as "very good" if the knowledge of the examination subject matter is clearly above the average expected level of knowledge and independent, well-founded insights are brought in.
