Die Vorlesung behandelt den Themenbereich von Schrift als einer entscheidenden Form der Selbstkonstitution von Glaubensgemeinschaften, nimmt einen theologischen Standpunkt ein und hat dabei im Zentrum die biblischen Glaubensgemeinschaften jüdischer und christlicher Tradition. Daher ergibt sich auch die Frage nach der Bedeutung von Traditionen von selbst, ebenso die Frage nach deren Wirkungen und Wirksamkeiten, die sich mitunter deutlich über den eigenen Bereich hinaus erstrecken.

The lecture will be held as a face-to-face lecture with digital synchronous recording in lecture hall 1 and will be digitally recorded. Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

The main aim of the course is to grasp and understand the close connection between writing, text, and knowledge in the context of religious traditions in order to be able to distinguish between different text-bound claims of biblical religions. A further aim is to be able to reflect such distinctions in terms of different methods of transmission in which texts have been handled and interpreted in Jewish and Christian discourses and settings, exemplified by examples in history and the present.

- Scripture - canon - dogma
- Concept of tradition

Methods:
- Present-oral lecture and presentations; discussions
- Summaries of each topic will be available on Moodle platform.
According to current planning (11 August 2021), the lecture in lecture hall 1 will take place as a so-called hybrid teaching: According to the seating arrangements, a certain number of students will be present in the lecture hall, while the other part will follow the lecture digitally synchronously via video stream. The distribution of the groups that will be present will be done via Moodle platform. – Please check this entry regularly. It might be possible to update it as measures in respect of the pandemic might change.
Update 9/2/2021: Currently, seating in HS 1 is 50% of full capacity and should be sufficient for all who wish to attend. Prerequisite for attendance is the Vienna 3-G rule (https://coronavirus.wien.gv.at/neue-corona-regeln/).

Assessment and permitted materials

Present oral exam of 15 minutes consisting of two independent topics of the lecture series on at least four examination dates (see https://st-tgf-ktf.univie.ac.at/studium/pruefungstermine/wolfgang-treitler/) as well as in every office hour of the following semester (registration via email to wolfgang.treitler@univie.ac.at).
The examination for this course can be taken until the end of the winter semester 2022/23.
Permitted aids during the examination:

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

The oral examination consists of at least two independent questions or topics. A positive assessment of the examination is achieved if at least 50% of the answers to each question area are correct. - The examination performance is assessed as "very good" if the knowledge of the examination subject matter is clearly above the average expected level of knowledge and independent, well-founded insights are brought in.
