Students will study the various Syriac traditions in their theological, Christological, liturgical, ecclesiastical and cultural dimensions and are able to outline their specificities by contrast with Latin/Roman Catholic, Protestant and Byzantine/Greek Orthodox Christianity.
Through the study of key figures as a means to dwell into various topics, the students will strengthen their skills in historical and textual analysis, which they will make use of in the different tasks.
Methods: self-study ahead of and during the course, a short presentation or summary of an article or book chapter, discussions, primary source analysis, attending a Syriac Orthodox liturgy (participant observation and discussion with an SO representative).
