Aims, contents and method of the course

This course is designed to deepen the students’ knowledge of public international law, to teach legal case-solving skills applicable to the international legal system and to prepare students for the oral exam of this module. It’s gonna be huge.

The content of the course will be public international law within the confines of the mandatory readings (see below). It includes, among other topics, sources of international law, subjects of international law, the rules governing international relations, the law of state responsibility, international trade and investment law, as well as international human rights protection.

The methods used to achieve these aims will include independent reading preparation by students based on cases uploaded on the Moodle platform, lectures combined with active participation of students, discussion on critical aspects and the drafting of a written pleading by students as homework.

Assessment and permitted materials

1. Written exam – 50%
2. Oral participation – 20 %
3. Written pleading – 30 %

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

In order to successfully complete this course, students must reach a minimum of 50% of all points (which is of all three course assessments cumulatively). The final grade is therefore based on the students‘ performance at the written exam, their participation in class, as well as their homework in form of a short written pleading. Attendance to this course is mandatory. More details on methods of grading will be available on Moodle.
