Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
This course provides an introduction to smuggling of migrants and trafficking in persons, their causes and conditions, the wider context of irregular migration and criminal laws and international frameworks to prevent and suppress these phenomena. The course thus stands at the intersection of criminal law, international law, and migration law.
Assessment and permitted materials
The assessment in this course consists of two components: (1) individual and group exercises and participation in class (discussions, questions, other contributions) (30% of final grade); (2) final exam (40 mins duration) consisting of 20 multiple-choice questions and one open question (70% of final grade). The final exam will take place in the final hour of the last course day (16 June).
Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
Grading criteria will be published at a later date.
Examination topics
The assessment encompasses all of the content covered in the three course days. The slides shown in class (and made available online after class) capture the key points covered.
Reading list
Selected laws, official documents, and literature will be made available on the Moodle learning platform in mid-May 2025.
