The "ethics of law" is dedicated to the task of evaluating the law from a moral point of view. Particularly visible fields of application are the application of the considerations of medical or animal ethics to law. The background for the moral evaluation of law is essentially formed by two competing currents of normative ethics: the consequentialism on the one hand and the so-called "deontological" approaches on the other. The competition between these currents must be considered against the background of the question of whether something like "objectivity" of moral judgement can exist at all and how it should be imagined. This "meta-ethical" question is still controversial today. The seminar is devoted to normative ethics and the positions of metaethics in relation to law.
